Handy! |
I am always surprised by what is easy and what is not easy. Is it because we are generally trained to think about others before ourselves? Or at least only talk as if we do? That's noble and all, but what about when I want to hear about you? When I ask you my weird questions, I am dying to see where you go with it.
I thought monsters would be easy. What could be simpler than choosing a monster that you want to be? It started as a discussion around the kitchen at work where I thought I'd throw out something other than, "hey, how's your day going?" as we met at the fridge.
"So, if you could be any monster you wanted to, what would you be?" J2~ said he'd want to be the Creature From the Black Lagoon, because it didn't want to hurt anyone, it just wanted to get the girl. S~ was right there with me on exploring the Godzilla possibilities.
Like all my questions, I thought this would have a built-in advantage for the kids. Kids see more monsters in TV and movies in a week than I probably have in the last year. I expected they would have a built-in pool of monster knowledge to draw from. If that was true, however, it was hard to see where it helped them. They had a bugger of a time pulling monsters they want to be.
And really, what sort of sick bastard goes around asking people to be monsters? Doesn't the world have enough problems already?
Anyway, without further ado, here are the results of a pretty narrow data set. Adults and kids, gender is noted if you care.
Adults
I~ (m) – I would be The Amazing Shelly Winters [The ever
clever H~ child shouted out that I~ "should be Elvis!" as his monster].
S~ (m) – I would be the Invisible Man. I know I could make a better go of it than the guy in the book did.
H~ (f) – I'd be George Bush. [And we all had a hearty laugh.]
E~ (m) – A ghost from Scooby Doo. [The Scooby Doo ghosts which are just sheets over some inept bad guy? Who get semi-dramatically unmasked by a smug Velma at the end of the show? That's who you want to be?] Yup.
A~ (m) – Dracula [He didn't know what he wanted to be. Had to be prompted into Dracula.]
M~ (f) – Bigfoot. Yeah, I'd want to be Sasquatch.
K~ (f) – I'd be a witch. But if I could just have an evil power, it would be to be invisible.
B~ (m) – Werewolf
Kids
H~ (m) – I don't know. I'll tell you later. [That's what he
says every week. He never gets back to me.]
H~ (m) – I'd be Dracula. [Though he didn't like the scoring with chicks aspect of being Dracula.
S~ (m) – Dragon. Or a giant monster eating the whole world. [I love it when they think big!]
M~ (f) – I'd be Scott [me. Zinger!]
A~ (f) – I would be a three-eyed monster. [Where would your three eyes be?, I asked, encouraging her to think about maybe having 360 degree view.] Here, here, and here, she said, indicating a equilateral triangle on her face.
A~ (m) – Dragonball Z! [What monster from Dragonball Z?] Goku!
A~ (m) – [Also wanted to be Dragonball Z monster.] Gogida! Or a vampire.
R~ (f) – I would be my mommy's monster. [What is your mommy's monster like?] It's green and red and slimy.
L~ (f) – I would be S~ (the woman who runs the tutoring program, who was, coincidentally, standing three feet away).
J~ (m) – I would be Cyclops [And I hadn't even suggested Cyclops! He pulled it out all by himself. I thought about making the check-the-bellies joke, but didn't think he'd get it.]
L~ (f) – I don't know.
J~ (f) – I would be a witch. [Stolen from the ever lovely K~'s answer.]
M~ (m) – I'd be Cookie Monster.
